How Exos Slashed Risk for a National Health Insurance Provider

THE CHALLENGE
Why Standard Wellness Perks Wouldn't Cut It
This national health insurance company recognized an urgent need to address the growing health risks within its workforce. Looming conditions like hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and obesity were driving up healthcare costs and threatening long-term well-being.
These concerns weren’t unique to this client. National CDC data highlights the scale of the problem: 72% of U.S. adults aren’t meeting daily exercise recommendations, over 40% live with obesity, and nearly 16% have diabetes — 95% of which is Type 2.
Faced with both rising risks and rising costs, their workforce needed more than just a wellness perk. It needed a behavior-changing, clinically impactful solution that could scale across its population.
They turned to Exos to build that solution.

THE STORY
Building a Behavior-First, Risk-Focused Health Strategy
Exos designed a 12-week hybrid intervention to support employees at risk for metabolic issues from inactivity or excess weight. The mission was clear: improve health, boost confidence, and reduce chronic disease risk through personalized coaching.
The journey began with a one-on-one consultation. Using motion capture technology and in-depth interviews, Exos coaches identified key risk factors and uncovered what truly motivated each participant.
Based on biometric and movement data, coaches grouped participants by risk level. For full medical alignment, we integrated medical teams into the study. This allowed for precise, tailored planning and brought in medical providers when needed.
From there, each person got a personalized Exos Gameplan built on movement, nutrition, mindset, and recovery.
Small-group training ran four times a week. Participants also received custom meal plans, post-workout shakes, and always-on digital support via the Exos platform. Daily nudges, habit tracking, and personalized content helped new routines stick.

A Custom-Built, Scalable Model
Exos doesn’t do cookie-cutter employee engagement solutions. Each of our programs is personalized to our clients’ unique needs, and they go far beyond just the fitness center.

Standardized Wellness Programs
Through rapidly changing eras including COVID-19, Exos consistently rolled out group fitness, nutritional support, mental well-being, and virtual employee engagement solutions to meet the evolving needs of employees. During Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccination program, Exos teams supported operations by checking in employees and leading movement sessions in line.
Strategic Design & Build Services
Our world-class space design and development team designed and built six new facilities and renovated six existing ones across the U.S. This included redeploying $300,000 in exercise equipment assets, obtained through acquisitions, to generate significant cost savings and upgrade Pfizer’s portfolio of workplace amenities.
Service Request Platform
Exos implemented an online service request system to support streamlined coordination of Recharge Breaks and other wellness offerings. This platform has supported global program delivery across Pfizer's workforce.
Global Hybrid Expansion
Exos virtual coaching gave Pfizer employees across the globe access to wellness programming, regardless of location or remote status.
Centralized Management
Exos implemented a unified standard operating model across 14 locations to ensure a consistent member experience. This included revenue/expense management, programming, staffing, and data tracking.
Recharge Breaks Deployment
As of January 2025, Exos officially deployed the three standard Recharge Break formats (for energy, creativity, or calm) across Pfizer. These sessions are delivered by both on-site and virtual coaches. To date, the team has completed 198 sessions with a total attendance of 8,255.
Data-Driven Efficiencies
Our team implemented Net Promoter Score (NPS) tracking, utilization data, and outcome monitoring to continually measure impact and improve how we serve each member.
THE SOLUTION
Integrated Coaching Meets Clinical Precision
These employees went beyond exercising side by side. They formed a tribe. Group training not only elevated motivation, but also created social accountability.
Our coaches know that consistency is the real key to powerful results. So, they drew upon behavioral science and real, old-fashioned human connection to help people enjoy continually showing up.
To support employees between workouts, the Exos platform delivered habit nudges, self-tracking, and coach check-ins. This helped turn one-off wins into lasting routines, making well-being part of the everyday workflow.
Meanwhile, progress wasn’t left to guesswork. Coaches tracked key health markers like body composition, VO₂ max, and cardiovascular capacity. And the benefits weren’t just physical. Participants reported enhanced mood, stress management, and overall quality of life.
