Learn best practices for marketing your fitness certifications and credentials, including how to:

  1. Craft Your Message
  2. Post Your Announcement
  3. Engage With Your Audiences
  4. Keep the Momentum Going

You’ve earned a new fitness certification or completed a continuing education course. Now what?

In today’s competitive fitness, coaching and wellness industry, standing out requires more than just passion and expertise; it demands smart, strategic marketing and differentiation. Whether you're a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, Strength Coach, Performance Coach, Physical Therapist, Nutritionist, Athletic Trainer, or a related professional, effectively marketing yourself is key to establishing credibility, building trust, attracting clients, and advancing your career or business. Marketing your fitness certifications and credentials isn’t about boasting; it’s about communicating your value, expertise, and commitment to professional growth.

The following tips provide best practices for showcasing your education and marketing your fitness certifications in a way that resonates with your audience and sets you apart in a competitive industry.

1.  CRAFT YOUR MESSAGE

Go beyond just promoting a new certification or course completion. Highlight the new skills and insights you’ve gained and, most importantly, how or why they’re important to your clients or athletes. Make the message about your clients and how you’re investing in providing them with the best knowledge, advice and expertise.

A quick checklist for the message:

  • Be specific in the course you’ve completed or certification you’ve earned, and include the governing body or organization who provided the continuing education for added credibility.
  • Tell your audience what this educational achievement means for them. What have you learned that can and will be implemented right away in support of their outcomes?
  • Include a visual where you can. This can include you holding a certificate, posting a copy of a digital certificate, a screenshot of a course completion, or something else that visually demonstrates your achievement.
  • Acknowledge others, including mentors, instructors, teammates, peers or employers who have supported you. Also consider recognizing clients or athletes who have inspired you to pursue further education or specialized knowledge.

2.  POST YOUR ANNOUNCEMENT

Consider all owned channels, such as your personal or studio website, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and email newsletter.

Below are a few specific steps you can take on various platforms to make the most out of marketing your fitness certification or completed course:

Website:

  • Add to your homepage to promote specialized expertise
  • Add to your personal bio or About Us page
  • If you’ve completed an Exos certification, you can also post your badge on any or all webpages

Facebook:

  • Add to your Bio
  • Create a post to share your new accomplishment, and be sure to tag the organization and any other deserving individuals as noted above

Instagram & TikTok:

  • Create a post to share your new accomplishment, and be sure to tag the organization and any other deserving individuals as noted above

LinkedIn:

  • Add to your headline description (i.e. Exos certified)
  • Add new profile sections, including Licenses & Certifications and/or Courses
  • Add to your About description
  • Add as a bullet point to your Experience
  • If you’ve completed an Exos certification, add your badge as Media under your Education section
  • Create a post to share your new accomplishment, and be sure to tag the organization and any other deserving individuals as noted above

Email Newsletter:

  • Include your accomplishment and related visuals in an upcoming newsletter

3.  ENGAGE WITH YOUR AUDIENCES

Tag the education organization and any other individuals who should be recognized as part of your achievement, from instructors and mentors, to clients and athletes.

Be sure to engage with individuals who show their support and comment on your posts through words of gratitude, likes and other reactions.

4.  KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING

Consider posting a follow-up in the weeks or months following your achievement to show how you’ve applied the new knowledge or skills, and how it’s impacting your athletes or clients. This shows that you’re genuine in providing action-oriented updates, not just collecting certificates or continuing education credits.
