PHOENIX, Nov. 8, 2018 -- For the magazine’s 30th anniversary issue, Men’s Health created their list of 30 legends, selecting EXOS founder and president Mark Verstegen among their honorees.

Writer Nick Heil sat down with Verstegen, who he named “the smartest man in fitness,” to discuss his mission to make America healthier, one individual at a time. “Upgrading lives, wherever they need to perform — on the field, in the boardroom, or at home — is what we do,” said Verstegen.

When it comes to applying the same principles that work with NFL players and Navy SEALs to office workers, the key is personalized plans that are effective in their unique situations. And that approach, Verstegen hopes, will help solve our nation’s health crisis.

“Reactive health care is broken,” he said. “Seventy percent of the issues clogging our health care system are lifestyle related. If we can remove them, if we can get people upstream of the disease state, it’s a win-win for everyone.”
